Shows - see calendar for details

Hello friends and fans,
I've been gone so much this fall, that it seems like a long time since I've seen or played for many of you. I've got lots of stories, cool new musicians to turn you onto that I' ve discovered along my folk music path, and that sort of thing. But that's for later...here's the immediate scoop.
December is going to be a fantastic month of varied and great music in Portland for me , and you too, if you can come on out for a show . I will be playing with most of my local acts and favorite players, from the 9 piece swingin' jassy blue Sharkskin Revue to the ethereal Celtic Strawberry Rune Seasonal Show, from bluegrass to country blues, and it's going to be a blast. Venues range from dance halls to house concerts, from public libraries to the neighborhood pub. Do check the schedule on the left for details. And Old - Time music fans, look forward to the infamous Portland Old Time Gathering in Jan.

Acoustic Blues and Beyond Sat Nov 28
"In the music annals of great male-female couplings, Terry Robb and Lauren Sheehan may just be the new gold standard. Robb's explosive acoustic blues ferocity tempered by Sheehan's sensual old timey spunk makes for riveting interplay. That old chestnut of an act being more than the sum of the parts, has never been more true." - Lisa Lepine, Bite of Oregon Artistic Director
Sat Nov 28 9pm Rock Creek Tavern, Hillsboro OR, with Dave Kahl

Strawberry Rune Soulstice Celebration Concerts, Dec 19, 20 reservations needed, see below
Elizabeth Nicholson and I will be giving our last shows as Strawberry Rune this December, and we look forward to sharing our delights in the season with you. Our Soulstice show features folk music along the themes of light and dark; of the earth, families, hope, loss, despair and humor. We address the ancient and common stirrings of the soul during these long, dark nights, hoping to create a secular counterpoint to the more religious events of the season.
Special guests join us this year. Betsy Branch, contra dance fiddlin' ace and Portland Christmas Revels Asst Music Director , brings her inspiring fiddle and lovely voice to the Sat show. Zoe Carpenter, Lauren's daughter, will bring a 4th generation to the group along with her vibrant harmonies.
Our biggest news, which you will hear more of, is that Betsy will be joing the band in the new year, we'll have a name change, and you'll hear more about that later!
About Strawberry Rune -
"They weave an intricate and alluring sound, with compelling vocal harmonies highlighted by impressive harp, guitar, mandolin and banjo accompaniments. From O ‘Carolan to John Prine, from ballads to bawdy, expect a rich and evocative show."

Johnnie Ward's Sharkskin Revue Sat Dec 5 9 pm Duff's Garage
Have you had the chance to hear this band yet? Duff's is a great place for dancing or just listening and enjoying from the back of the room.
The Sharkskin Revue is 9 pieces of swinging jumping jiving jass, blues, and rhythm led by Muddy Award winner Johnnie Ward, notorious elder statesman of Portland's blues and jazz scene. Johnnie's lifelong commitment to this classic American music has never sounded more modern as he leads the band on tenor saxophone, harmonica, saxcello and vocals.
Featuring original songs plus a wide ranging repertoire of material from Ella Johnson to Howlin' Wolf to Thelonious Monk, The Sharkskin Revue brings authentic sounds and rhythms of prohibition era swing bands up through postwar jump blues and into the present. Barrelhouse piano, sly jass and reefer tunes, guitar boogie, New Orleans R&B, it's all here and it all grooves.
"Johnny Ward's horns and band were spot-on; then add in Lauren Sheehan playing the role of a blues-shouting diva, backed by the always brilliant Whit Draper on guitar. This set hit all high marks for certain." - Greg Johnson for CBA

Greg Clarke & Lauren Sheehan Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Thurs. Dec 3, 8 30pm Muddy Rudder Ptld
Greg is one of the finest Bluegrass and Old-Time players in the NW, and I always smile a lot when we play for you. He's not only a musician's musician, but sure to delight and inspire any acoustic music lover.

Teaching in Portland - 2010
I will have room for some new students once the new year rolls in, so let me know if you wan to give it a try. First, I adapt to the styles, skills and hopes students bring, then I scale the lessons to reflect realistic goals ,especially in regard to how much playing and practice time is available for each student.
I teach guitar, (finger and flat picking), voice and/or vocal coaching, harmony singing, mandolin, and banjo. Some students want to focus on ensemble or jamming skills and/or performance coaching. Students tell me repeatedly that I seem to be especially skilled in helping improve the combination of singing and playing an instrument at the same time.
My students vary from beginners to quite advanced and lessons are very musical, that's the main thing!
I offer a sliding pay scale, would like lessons affordable to all, and typically meet with adults twice or once a month in my NW home.
Do call if you are interested in regular or occassional lessons. 503 227 4259
