Lauren will have her 1943 Banner Gibson guitar as well as the new Gibson which the company sent her, and play from her new CD, The LIght Still Burns. This CD zoomed to #3 on the Folk DJ Radio charts and #2 on the Oregon Roots music charts. The CD is a comanion to the new history book Kalamazoo Gals: Gibson WWII Banner Guitars and the Women who Made Them, by John Thomas.
If you have an old Gibson and want to bring it to the show for me to play, let me know. It's been a lot of fun incorporating vintage instruments that fans have been bringing to the shows.

Thank You Gibson Guitars!
I am enjoying the new "American Eagle" mahogany LG2 guitar that Gibson sent me. It's a great modern sound and addition to my Kalamazoo Gals Banner guitar show. The American Eagle is a nice finger picking guitar with a very comfortable small body and a warm resonant tone.
Let me know if you'd like to play it after one of my shows.

Looking forward to bringing the Gibson project to my fans and dear frirends in concert in Bloomington, as well as joining The Firehouse Follies live radio show for their irreverent and delightful production. This year, it looks as if the evocative and ever surprising Arbutus Cunningham and I will do a spoken word/music piece together. . Folks, this radio show is remarkable, yes, remarkable in that nothing is sacred and all things thought worthy, in an artistic way, are considered. I am excited and honored to be invited to participate and join Mike Kelsey in his musical and social adventure.

The story ...
While the men were off to the war, women filled in and kept the lights burnin' at Gibson's. The guitars of this period have a banner across the headstock, hence "Banner Guitars" and are oft considered among the treasures of Gibson guitars. Who were the women, what was their story, why did Gibson cover up the fact that they made these guitars, why are the guitars so wonderful sounding and how were they made? These questions and more about the story are the subject of the book.
Eventually, the author, John Thomas, thought about how cool it would be if folks could also hear these guitars the women made. He raised some funds, got guitars donated from all over the country for a recording project and then found a women to play them - me. Many songs seemed to suggest themselves to me after I read the manuscript so picking the music was easy. The songs are suited to the times and themes in the book and we used a different guitar for each track. Eric Tate engineered it in New Haven, CT, at Firehouse 12 Studio, so that you , the listeners, would be able to hear and appreciate the sonic details and differences of the guitars without bells and whistles.
