Washington State tour Sept 20-26 Seattle, Bellingham, Port Townsend, Ridgefield
Hello folks, I am looking forward to coming north with Mark Graham near the end of Sept. Mark and I have enjoyed playing together for years, mixing our song bags rooted in Trad. music with improvisation and fun. If you have pals in the towns we are headed for, please recommend our shows, as those personal recommendations help fill the houses. Mark Graham and Lauren Sheehan
Blues, Ballads and the UnBelievable -
spinning tradition into pure gold for discerning and modern music lovers
Mark and Lauren met years ago in Boston
and have enjoyed many a tune together on both coasts ever since. But after
sharing the stage in 2009 at the Portland (OR) Old Time Gathering, then jamming
for nights on end, they could resist the urge to tour no longer. Be
There and Beware. They are
headed for a town near you, bringing their acoustic sounds, rooted in mostly
old American music, with a little mythology, mystery
and muscle for effect. Lauren Sheehan ,"The
River City Blues Chanteuse and Songster" will wrap you in her smoky and
honey sweet voice and carry you away on a deep indigo stream that flows from mountain valleys through the
Piedmont to the Delta; A journey across
a human landscape of passion, misery and celebration lit with flashes of string
mastery and rolling on to the rhythms of the American countryside. A
fine guitar, banjo and mandolin picker, Lauren plays and sings with a sensuous
authority that speaks to a lifetime of musical scholarship and a deep love for
the music of the South. Mark Graham, described by
Hohner Easy Reeding Magazine as "a total master of the harmonica" and
by The Old-Time Herald as "one of the pre-eminent harmonica players
blowing today" is one of the few players schooled in the blues as
well as the melodic and rhythmic intricacies of Southern string band music. He
can burn it up or evoke the blues moaning of the Delta and Piedmont. The
songwriting of Mark Graham is a strange and singular universe that covers the
big subjects: Natural Science, Mathematics, Cosmology, Love, Death, Food,
Economics and the Classics of literature.

 Portland Music Lessons resume
One of the things I love about this time of year is beginning school. And while I miss running a school and helping children develop, I am very glad to be able to continue teaching music from my home in NW Portland.
I teach guitar, (finger and flat picking), voice and/or vocal coaching, harmony singing, mandolin, banjo and ensemble or jamming skills. I am finding that I seem to be especially skilled in helping improve the combination of singing and playing an instrument at the same time.
My students vary from beginners to quite advanced, and choose to work on technique, ear training, reading, performance, jamming skills, improvisation, fun and what ever else they can articulate and I can help with. It's all very musical, and that's the main thing!
I offer a sliding pay scale, would like lessons affordable to all, and typically meet with adults twice or once a month in my NW home.
Do call if you are interested in regular or occassional lessons. 503 227 4259
