ROOTS AMERICANA BLUES AND FOLK

Summer is finally in full swing and I'm looking forward to playing in the Oregon summer heat! There are a few local shows as listed on the calendar and two rather special events.
First it's the Friday July 5th evening cruise with Jerron Paxton at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. Tickets sell out so get yours soon if you want to come along. At the end of the month I'll be teaching up at the Port Townsend Acoustic Blues Festival for Centrum. It's a terrific week long players workshop for folks to learn mostly pre-war blues and related acoustic music. The final week end is performance oriented, so that's a great chance for listeners to enjoy.

This Portland Spirit late night cruise should be a blast. Check out the line up with the link above, but I'll be sharing the top deck, and some tunes, with Jerron Paxton.
Jerron Paxton is a songster, busker and itinerant bluesman, the living embodiment of the true blues in the 21St Century. The young bard was born in 1989, but his vast talent rivals the greatest in the genre. He is the whole package. He’s witty, fast rhyming, poetic, fun, exciting, wonderfully skilled as a musician and a fine singer, he is the continuation of a proud tradition, literally and figuratively.
How can you resist?
The rest of the line up for the 26th annual festival looks to be stellar as always. Best to look at the website to find out when you want to be there. http://www.tickettomato.com/event.php?event_id=1796

Thank You Gibson Guitars!
I am enjoying the new "American Eagle" mahogany LG2 guitar that Gibson sent me. It's a great modern sound and addition to my Kalamazoo Gals Banner guitar show. The American Eagle is a nice finger picking guitar with a very comfortable small body and a warm resonant tone.
Let me know if you'd like to play it after one of my shows.

The story ...
While the men were off to the war, women filled in and kept the lights burnin' at Gibson's. The guitars of this period have a banner across the headstock, hence "Banner Guitars" and are oft considered among the treasures of Gibson guitars. Who were the women, what was their story, why did Gibson cover up the fact that they made these guitars, why are the guitars so wonderful sounding and how were they made? These questions and more about the story are the subject of the book.
But then the author, John Thomas, thought about how cool it would be if folks could also hear the guitars the women made. He raised some funds, got guitars donated from all over the country for a recording project and then found a women to play them - me. Many songs seemed to suggest themselves to me after I read the manuscript so picking the music was easy and it's mostly appropriate to the times and themes in the book. We used a different guitar for each track. Eric Tate engineered it in New Haven, CT, at Firehouse 12 Studio, so that you , the listeners, would be able to hear and appreciate the sonic details and differences of the guitars
